Qualifications

Licensed physician employed by the program sponsor (the sponsor itself need not be a physician).

  • Assumes responsibility for administering all medical services performed by the opioid treatment program, directly or by delegation to authorized program physicians/health care professionals under the medical director's direct supervision
  • Monitors and supervises all medical services provided by the program
  • Refers patients for medical or psychiatric treatment when appropriate

Notes

Specific to licensed opioid treatment programs (methadone/buprenorphine dispensing) under N.D. Admin. Code art. 75-09.1-10, mirroring the federal OTP medical-director requirement (42 CFR § 8.12(f)(1)) rather than a broader addiction-medicine/MAT-clinic rule — an office-based buprenorphine practice not licensed as an OTP is not independently shown to need one.
