Maryland: what a medical director of a long-term care / assisted living / group home must do

Notable absence, not an oversight: Maryland's nursing-home regulation requires resident-care policies to be developed 'with the advice of the principal physician or medical staff or medical director, IF APPLICABLE' (COMAR 10.07.02.13) — a medical director is one option among several, not mandatory — and otherwise imposes only per-resident attending-physician duties (visits, orders; COMAR 10.07.02.14), not a facility-level director designation. A federal medical-director requirement (42 CFR § 483.75(i)) still applies separately to any Maryland nursing home that is Medicare/Medicaid certified.
