New Mexico: what a medical director of a long-term care / assisted living / group home must do

Physician retained under a written agreement, part-time or full-time as appropriate for the facility's needs; if the facility has an organized medical staff, the medical staff designates the medical director subject to the licensee's approval.

• Provides medical direction and coordination of medical care in the facility
• Develops written rules/regulations (approved by the licensee) delineating attending physicians' responsibilities, and facility medical staff bylaws where applicable
• Coordinates with attending physicians to ensure orders are written promptly on admission and that periodic evaluations of staff/services adequacy are conducted
• Monitors the health status of the facility's employees
• Reviews incidents/accidents on the premises to identify health and safety hazards
