Oregon: what a medical director of a long-term care / assisted living / group home must do
Whether Oregon requires a physician medical director for a long-term care / assisted living / group home, the qualifications you need, and the duties the rule assigns.
Qualifications
A physician, designated in writing.
Duties the rule assigns
- Serve on the facility's Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee
- Help ensure adequate medical care is provided in a timely manner
- Act as attending physician for residents with no other physician, or ensure another physician is available
Notes
CONFIRMED for nursing facilities specifically (OAR 411-086-0200) โ this tracks the federal SNF medical-director requirement (42 CFR 483.75(i)) already in force nationwide. Research could NOT confirm an equivalent mandate for Oregon's separately-regulated residential care/assisted living tier (OAR ch. 411, div. 54, which addresses administrator qualifications but no medical-director role found there) โ treat that tier as an open question, not a confirmed absence.
